Muay Thai Fights @ Tiger Muay Thai – June 19, 2010
Muay Thai Fights – By Naomi Owens
The Muay Thai fight card was filled with 5 different gym. It was the most participating gyms that we had the pleasure of working with. Mahalo Team Up and Up, M1 Fitness, Edwards MMA and Long Beach Muay Thai, who came from California to participate in our event. A special Mahalo to Ring Sport Hawaii out of Powerhouse Gym for presenting Doug and I a gift of appreciation for promoting Muay Thai in Hawaii.
We’ve been organizing Muay Thai events for the last two years and are still working out the rough edges. We’re happy to say that everyone who came, saw, and participated in the fights had fun and was well entertained.
For many of the fighters on this night, it was their first fight. After the fights Doug and I talked to the fighters to get their thoughts on the fights. Most of the fighters found out that “fighting isn’t as easy as I thought”. Many experienced various emotions before, during, and after their fight. The common concenses that all of the new fighters had was “fighting isn’t only physical, it’s emotional too”.
We were really happy with the turnout for this event and can only look forward to organizing more Muay Thai fights. Plans are in place for our next event on September 18, 2010. Please stay in touch to receive more information about this fight.

March 27, 2010
Participating gyms : Tiger Muay Thai, M1 Fitness, and Nanakuli Kickboxing
The card was filled with 6 action packed matches.
Match 1: Nate vs Freddy
Nate started his match with the Wai Kru. The first match was between Nate from Tiger Muay Thai and Freddy of Nanakuli Kickboxing. This match was a great opener, tons of leg kicks, knees and kicks to the head. Freddy dominated the first round. In the second round Nate got rocked by an spinning head kick which knocked him down. Nate popped back up and put his game face on. Nate started doubling and triple kicking. When Freddy came in with punches Nate clinched and threw knees. In the the third round Freddy came back with some combos of his own. Spinning fists and heel kicks which connected with Nate. It was an all out battle in the third round and a hard one to judge. In the end, the match was awarded to Nate. Look forward for both these fighters to get in to the gym and work harder on their skills.
Match 2: Moffett vs Rob
Moffett of Tiger Muay Thai and Rob from M1 Fitness, followed. These two spar a month before at the Spar-A-Thon. What a world of difference! It was very noticeable that both fighters went back into the gym to get their kicks harder, their punches crisper, clinching was much more stronger, and the throwing power was felt when both exchanged throws that ended on the mat. Rob was caught by an accidental kick to the groin but recovered and finished off strong. Moffett kept Rob at bay with his long legs and teep kick, while Rob used is center of gravity and muscled Moffett against the ropes.
Match 3: Brandon vs Kanoe
The heavy weights took to the ring for the third match. Brandon of Tiger Muay Thai against Kanoe of Nanakuli kickboxing. This was both fighters first time against an opponent. Brandon looked more comfortable then Kanoe, but that didn’t stop Kanoe’s confidence in throwing combos. The first round was a feeling out round. Both were testing each other’s strength and power. The second round went to Brandon who got Kanoe “circling” the ring and catching him with round house kicks. Kanoe came back in the third round with combinations of punches and kicks himself. This was a great match up for these two fighters, they got the taste of fighting, found out what they needed to work on for the next event.
Match 4: Digit vs Tiny
After a quick intermission and a change if refs, the fourth match started with Digit and Tiny of Tiger Muay Thai doing the Wai Kru. Digit, the more experienced student, gave Tiny a taste of fighting. Tiny gave Digit a run for his money. Tiny punched to the head and body and followed up with kicks and knees. Digit bob-ed and weaved and countered with some combos of his own. Both fighters locked up and cliched and show strength and balance by throwing each other. Look to see more action from both fighters.
Match 5: Bo vs Mike
Bo from Tiger Muay Thai went with Mike from Nanakuli Kickboxing. It was obivos weight difference but both fighters were competing for the ring experiance and fun. Late in the second round the two fighters got caugt up in the ropes and Bo injured his ankle and couldn’t finish the fight.
Match 6: Digit vs Mustache
The last match of the night was one of the most exciting matches. Digit filled in for Vince and went up against Mustache. In the first round Mustache caught Digit’s roundhouse and swept him to the mat. From the second round on the two battled for position and getting leg sweeps on each other. Mustache used his boxing skills hitting Digit to the body and head. Digit came back with leg grabs and sweeps of his own. They clinched and kneed and swept eachother to the ground.
The Smoker was a great event and all fighter did well and improved from their previous matches.
